Installing IIS on XP SP2 without CD

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:16 pm

If you have lost your windows CD or have it severely scratched, and now you need to install IIS on your XP SP 2, don’t worry, there’s a simple way out!

1. Download the installation copy of XP SP2. Can be found from several sites on the web.

2. You’ll probably get an extractable .exe file, so use winrar/winzip to extract the file to a folder.

3. You’d now have a I386 folder with you.

4. Start the IIS setup from Control Panel–>Add or Remove Programs–>Add/Remove Windows Components.

5. When prompted for dll files, browse to the folder where you just extracted your files.

6. It’d still probably miss a few dll files which you’ll require inorder to install IIS. So, if you have an old XP SP1 CD, keep the I386 folder from that cd handy, or else just goto goolge, type the missing dll name, and download it from several sites offering the file, and place it in the I386 folder.

7. That’s it. It’s all done now!
