Big Bang machine

Well, so finally it’s started! The Big Bang machine, created at a whopping £5bn on the Swiss-French border, is now finally active. It is designed to smash particles together with cataclysmic force and is said that it’ll recreate a situation similar to the big bang effect which led to the creation of the universe as we know it. Well, only time will tell how successful this goes, but surely if it does that, this will  be a giant leap in the field of science and technology.

To start if off today, ie, 10th August 2008,  a beam of particles called protons was fired around the 27km-long tunnel which houses the the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The beam completed its first circuit of the underground tunnel at just before 0930 BST.The LHC is arguably the most complicated and ambitious experiment ever built; the project has been hit by cost overruns, equipment trouble and construction problems. The switch-on itself is two years late. The collider is operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research - better known by its French acronym Cern.

I was just wondering that if they are able to create the same effects which led to the creation of our universe, is it possible that they can also speed it up? If so, then is it also possible that they can create a mini universe, which later on gets to the formation of another earth, with dinosaurs, then humans, etc, etc……I must be going mad!
